The Republic of South Korea has donated ultrasound machines worth $250,000 to the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.
The donation, facilitated through the efforts of First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio during her recent visit to South Korea, was officially presented by the South Korean Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Prankyu, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.
Ambassador Prankyu reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to supporting the hospital.
Following the donation, the Ambassador visited the hospital and received a briefing from the Commandant of Defence Medical Services, Colonel Dr. Stephen Sevalie. Dr. Sevalie highlighted the hospital’s progress in infrastructure development and system strengthening, emphasizing the commitment of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Major General A.I. Bangura, to making 34 Military Hospital a world-class institution.
On behalf of the Sierra Leonean government and people, and the Ministry of Defence/RSLAF Senior Management, Deputy Minister of Defence, Colonel (Rtd) M.B. Massaquoi, expressed gratitude to the First Lady, the Ambassador, and the government and people of South Korea for their generous donation.
He assured the Ambassador that the equipment would be used for its intended purpose and that mechanisms would be put in place to ensure its sustainability.
