Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has issued a public disclaimer warning citizens about a fraudulent recruitment notice circulating on social media.
In a statement dated April 22, 2026, the agency said a widely shared message titled “Notice of Recruitment” is false and misleading. The notice claims that Stats SL is inviting applications from qualified candidates nationwide to support the upcoming 2026 National Population and Housing Census.
The agency categorically denied the claim, stressing that no such recruitment exercise is currently underway. It clarified that its most recent census-related recruitment was conducted between April 27 and May 15, 2025, and that no new hiring either temporary or permanent has been announced since then.
According to Stats SL, the fraudulent notice appears designed to look legitimate by mimicking previous recruitment processes, including claims that shortlisted applicants would be contacted via email.
The public has been urged to disregard any such messages, links, or announcements that do not originate from the agency’s official communication channels. Stats SL emphasized that all legitimate recruitment information will only be published through its verified platforms, including its official website and recognised social media accounts.
The agency further warned that such fake notices may be part of schemes aimed at defrauding unsuspecting individuals.
