Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has conducted a one-day training for Regional Publicity Officers (RPOs), communication and public relations staff, and partner representatives from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MoICE) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

The training, held on 9th July 2026, forms part of preparations for the 2026 Mock Census, a key step ahead of the main Population and Housing Census scheduled for December 2026.

The objective of the training is to strengthen the capacity of communication personnel to effectively deliver census messages, improve public understanding, enhance stakeholder engagement, and support the successful implementation of the Mock Census through coordinated media outreach and accurate information dissemination.

According to Stats SL, participants are being equipped with strategies and tools to ensure consistent messaging, stronger media engagement, and effective public sensitization throughout the exercise.

A mock census is a standard statistical process used to test logistics, data collection systems, and the readiness of field personnel on a smaller scale before the official census rollout.

Stats SL said strengthening its communication capacity ahead of time will help promote public participation and ensure smooth implementation when data collection begins.
