Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats-SL) has reminded residents in communities selected for the 2026 Mock Population and Housing Census to observe Mock Census Night on Sunday, 19 July, describing it as the official reference point for the pilot census exercise.
According to a public notice issued by the national statistics agency, the Mock Census Night applies to six designated locations across the country: Folosaba Chiefdom in Falaba District, Dodo Chiefdom in Kenema District, Tambakha Chiefdom in Karene District, Panga Krim Chiefdom in Pujehun District, Hill Station in the Western Area Urban, and Fabiana in the Western Area Rural.
Stats-SL explained that individuals participating in the mock census will be counted based on where they spend the night of 19 July, irrespective of where they may later be interviewed during the enumeration process.
The agency noted that Census Night serves as the official reference point for determining each person’s usual location for the exercise, helping to ensure that every individual within the selected mock census communities is counted once and only once.
Stats-SL further urged residents in the identified areas to cooperate with census officials and understand that the place where they sleep on Mock Census Night is the location where they will be recorded during the trial census.
The Mock Population and Housing Census forms part of preparations for the 2026 Decennial Population and Housing Census and is intended to test census procedures, logistics, and operational systems before the nationwide enumeration.
