Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mohamed Rahman Swaray has engaged his Canadian counterpart on security challenges in Haiti and Sierra Leone’s candidature for a seat on the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda, where the two ministers discussed areas of mutual interest and opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the discussions, Minister Swaray and his Canadian counterpart exchanged views on the ongoing security situation in Haiti, exploring opportunities for cooperation to advance the Gang Suppression Force initiative aimed at restoring stability, law and security in the country.

Swaray also sought Canada’s support for Sierra Leone’s candidature for a seat on the International Court of Justice, as the country continues its diplomatic efforts to secure representation in the international judicial institution.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for both ministers to discuss ways of deepening the longstanding friendship and partnership between Sierra Leone and Canada.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
