The annual festival held at the National Stadium in Freetown will not take place this year, according to the organizers of the event.

One of the organizers, Tutie Haffner of Freetong Players Group told Politico that since the stadium is closed to the public because of its renovation project, it’s been difficult to find a suitable place to organize this year’s event.

He said considering the wellbeing of festival goers and where to accommodate them, it is therefore difficult to decide where next to host such an event in the city, hence the likelihood of no Tangains this year.

The Proprietor of Bondu’s Whatsapp Grill and Fast Food at Sir Samuel Lewis Road Aberdeen Roundabout, Bilal Bah in an interview with Politico noted that the last Tangains before Covid-19 hit was not encouraging.

He said participants at that particular event were hassling for booths but businesses were not booming, noting that they suffered a great loss as a result of that.

He said Tangains was a form of advertisement for business people where they showcased their goods and services. He went on to say that, the organizers needed to re-strategize as he said the event has lost its impact and value.

Bah also said that many ccommunities are now organizing, their own events similar to Tangains at community level. He noted that the unprecedented hike in the prices of food items in the country has hindered the progress of their businesses financially, and it will be a loss for them if the event were to be organised.

He said they used to spend huge amount of money constructing booths at the stadium.
But Sahr Victor Gbattih, a Salesman at Nanish Pujeh 2020 Bar and Restaurant said that they are disappointed that there won’t be Tangains this year.

He noted that the event has been a great help to their business given the huge sales they make every year at the stadium. He said, even though there are other similar events about to take place in different parts of the city, he doubts they will realize much.
Paul Momoh Conteh a resident of the Lumley community stated that, the organizers need to put in more efforts on security, provide clean restroom for participants if they were to organize the festival in the future.
