Three men, including a radio station manager, were remanded in custody on Monday in connection with the murder of journalist Samuel Brima Mattia.
The accused, Joseph Mendel Lamin, a 37-year-old journalist known as Manager Dust, along with Morlia Kamara, a 29-year-old commercial bike rider, and Umaru Timbo, a 35-year-old driver, appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown. They are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder.
The charges stem from an incident on January 15, 2025, at the VOPAD Radio Station in Kissi Town, Waterloo, where the accused allegedly conspired with others to kill the journalist.
The accused did not enter a plea when the charges were read. Prosecuting officer Inspector Kadie M. Taylor requested a short adjournment to prepare her witnesses. Magistrate Kekura denied bail and ordered the men to be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
The case will return to court on February 19, 2025, for further hearings.
