President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to President Julius Maada Bio following his re-election in the 24 June polls.

I write to congratulate Your Excellency on your recent re-election as the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone,” Tinubu wrote in a letter addressed to Bio.

The Nigerian President said Bio’s re-election “is a testament” of his “sterling leadership and the confidence reposed” in him by the people of Sierra Leone.

He said Bio was re-elected by Sierra Leoneans due to his concern for the welfare of his citizens and the promotion of the country abroad.

Indeed, this is not unconnected with your dedication to the upliftment of the welfare of Sierra Leoneans and the promotion of the interest of your country in the ECOWAS sub-region and the international community at large,” Tinubu said.

Bio was announced winner of the Presidential election by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) after he secured just above 56 percent of total valid votes.

Although the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) contested the result, Bio was sworn in hours after the result was pronounced.
