Sierra Leone’s football scene is in for a change, with Mohamed Kallon stepping in as the new head coach of the Leone Stars. But it wasn’t an easy task to get the football legend on board.
Emmanuel Saffa Abdulia, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), shared that it took a lot of convincing to get Kallon to accept the role.
Speaking at the official unveiling on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) headquarters in Kingtom, Abdulia explained, “It took me time to convince Kallon to take the job.” Despite the challenges in persuading him, Abdulia is hopeful that Kallon’s leadership will spark a new era for Sierra Leonean football.
Abdulia also assured fans that the government, under President Bio, will continue to support the national team, but he reminded everyone that results on the field are key. “The people of Sierra Leone wanted change, and this change has been made,” Abdulia said, expressing his confidence that Kallon’s appointment will bring success to both the team and the country’s football future.
Kallon’s arrival is seen as a big step forward for the Leone Stars, with fans now looking to the former international star to take the team to new heights.
I wish him good luck with the national team 🇸🇱
By God’s grace, Kallon will be a victor and will not dissapoint the football loving natin. I hope he will consider building a solid home based team that can mend the lapses of the current professionals.
