Two Competing List Sparks Debate in Sierra Leone Islamic Federation
Kadijatu Barrie Controversy has erupted regarding the nomination of board members for the Sierra Leone Islamic Federation (SLIF), Secondary School with allegations of procedural misconduct surrounding two competing lists of proposed members.
According to a publication by The Times Newspaper, one list, deemed legitimate, was prepared with the full consent and professional advice of Mohamed Kamara, the sitting Deputy Director of Education in Kambia. This original list followed lawful nomination procedures and was submitted to the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education on behalf of the pupils and teachers.
In contrast, a second list has been labeled as fake and reportedly manufactured by three individuals: Alimamy Kamara, the former Deputy Director of Education; Ishaga Turay, the current Provincial Secretary East; and Mohamed Kamara himself. Allegations suggest that the second list was concocted without regard for educational regulations and may have been influenced by bribes aimed at keeping Turay in the board chairperson position indefinitely.
Reports indicate that after the original list was submitted, it was allegedly withdrawn and replaced with the questionable second list, raising serious concerns about transparency and adherence to educational laws in the nomination process.
Efforts to obtain comments from Ishaga Turay have been met with resistance, as he requested a meeting at the Provincial Secretary’s office in Kenema to discuss the matter further. The situation continues to develop, as stakeholders seek clarity and accountability in the governance of the Sierra Leone Islamic Federation.
