On the one-year anniversary of the failed coup attempt in Sierra Leone, two fugitive military officers, Captain Aiah B.A. Senesie and Captain Thomas L. Konteh, were killed in a gunfight with the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF).

According to initial reports, the two captains, who had fled the country after the failed coup on November 26, 2023, allegedly returned with plans to orchestrate another coup. Acting on intelligence, the QRF intercepted them in a fierce confrontation that led to their deaths.

Captain Senesie and Captain Konteh were central figures in last year’s attempted coup, which was thwarted by state security forces.

After the failed attempt, the two officers evaded capture, leaving the country to evade prosecution. Their return, purportedly to carry out another coup plot, raised alarms within security circles.
