UBA-SL Announces Resignation of CEO Samoura, Names Executive Director as Acting MD
Kanja Sesay United Bank for Africa (UBA) Sierra Leone Limited has announced the resignation of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Alhajie Samoura, with his departure set to take effect on September 30, 2026.
The bank announced the leadership change in a press release issued in Freetown on September 25, 2026, confirming that its Board has accepted Samoura’s resignation.
UBA Sierra Leone thanked the outgoing Managing Director for his dedicated service to the institution.
“The Board has accepted his resignation and thanks him for his dedicated service,” the bank stated.
Following Samoura’s departure, Francis Esiemokhai, currently an Executive Director at UBA Sierra Leone, is expected to assume the role of Acting Managing Director.
However, the appointment remains subject to the requisite approval of the Bank of Sierra Leone, according to the statement.
UBA did not disclose the reason for Samoura’s resignation or provide additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding his departure.
Despite the leadership transition, UBA Sierra Leone said it remains committed to maintaining its banking operations and serving customers across the country.
“UBA Sierra Leone remains committed to delivering trusted, innovative, and customer-focused banking services to individuals, businesses, and communities across the country,” the bank said.
The announcement marks a significant leadership transition for UBA’s Sierra Leone operation, with Esiemokhai expected to oversee the bank in an acting capacity once Samoura formally leaves office and the necessary regulatory approval is secured.
