UNICEF Examines Child Healthcare and Education Services in Kenema
A UNICEF monitoring mission in Kenema District has reviewed progress in services for children and families while assessing ongoing interventions with local health authorities.
The UNICEF delegation, led by Deputy Representative for Programmes Liv Elin Indreiten, met with the District Health Management Team to assess ongoing programmes and discuss efforts to improve services for children and caregivers across the district.
The delegation also visited Holy Family Pre-School, where members observed early childhood education activities supported through development programmes aimed at strengthening foundational learning among young children.
At the Sembehun Community Health Centre, the team reviewed primary healthcare services provided at community level, with a focus on improving access to essential healthcare for children and families.
The mission further included a visit to the District Medical Store, which was constructed with support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The facility is intended to strengthen the storage and management of essential medical supplies, including vaccines.
The monitoring visit formed part of UNICEF’s efforts to assess the implementation of programmes and engage local authorities on progress and priorities affecting children and families in Kenema District.
