The United States Embassy in Sierra Leone has highlighted the impact of its investment in the country’s health sector through the U.S.-funded Global Health Supply Chain Program–Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM).
According to the Embassy, the programme has, since 2018, supported the delivery of millions of essential health supplies to Sierra Leone, strengthening the country’s capacity to prevent and respond to public health threats.
Through the programme, 11.1 million malaria test kits, 5.7 million insecticide-treated bed nets, 5.1 million HIV-related supplies, and 400,000 COVID-19 treatment supplies have been delivered, the Embassy stated.
The programme has also trained 790 people to strengthen Sierra Leone’s capacity to manage its health supply system and improve the availability of essential medical commodities.
The U.S. Embassy said GHSC-PSM is scheduled to close in September 2026 after supporting Sierra Leone’s health supply chain for eight years.
According to the Embassy, the programme’s closure comes with a stronger and more self-reliant health system, better positioned to identify and contain health threats before they spread.
The Embassy said the investment in Sierra Leone’s health security ultimately contributes to the safety and security of both Sierra Leone and the United States.
