There are reports that some alleged rogue supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC) have caused mayhem at Calaba Town in the east of the capital, Freetown this evening.
The epicentre of the violence is the Ataya Bases of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and APC. The two bases are situated opposite each other and has been a teeming place for political violence in recent times.
However, there are reports that security forces are now on top of situation.
Thousands of main opposition APC party supporters have thronged the street to welcome the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara.
Kamara, who won a landslide in the party’s primaries, is returning from northern city of Makeni where the party held their National Delegates Conference this weekend.
Supporters of the party have been seen in their thousands since this morning in Freetown in celebratory mood.
Meanwhile, security personnel have barricaded all routes leading to the parties headquarters in Brookfields, Freetown. There are speculations that they are acting on intelligence that some rogue supporters might use the office as a base for violence.
In another news, there speculations from members at the higher echelons of the party that Kamara have snubbed Chernoh Maju Bah (Chericoco) and others and chosen former vice president, Samuel Sam-Sumana as his running mate. The reason being attributed is based on the notion that the party could win the swing District of Kono.
