“I Will Not Run for a Third Term” – President Bio Affirms
President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed that he will not seek a third term in office, saying Sierra Leone’s constitutional term limits will prevail.
Speaking during an interview at the opening of Unstoppable Africa 2026, President Bio said speculation about a possible third-term bid would not change his position.
“Whispers are always there, but I want to stand by my words that I am not running for a third term,” he said, stressing that the country’s constitutional term limits would guide the transition.
His remarks come amid ongoing public discussion about the 2028 presidential election and questions over the future political leadership of Sierra Leone.
