IGP William Fayia Sellu Appointed Chair of West African Police Chiefs Committee
Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, has been appointed as the new Chair of the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), a key regional body under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
WAPCCO is a specialized organ of ECOWAS that brings together police chiefs from the fifteen member states to enhance regional cooperation on law enforcement, security, and cross-border crime. The committee plays a vital role in strengthening collaboration among national police forces to combat transnational threats including terrorism, human trafficking, cybercrime, and drug smuggling.
Reacting to the appointment, State House Director of Communications, Myk Berewa, noted that the development aligns with Sierra Leone’s increasing regional leadership, especially following President Julius Maada Bio’s recent assumption of the Chairmanship of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
IGP Sellu’s new role is seen as a significant boost to Sierra Leone’s international standing and commitment to regional peace and security.
