Popular Ghanaian YouTube personality, vlogger, and digital media influencer Wode Maya has praised Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, for her efforts to reposition the country as a competitive tourism destination.
Speaking during an interview on Truth Media, Wode Maya highlighted what he described as the Minister’s hands-on leadership approach and innovative initiatives aimed at improving Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
He cited projects such as the Tourism Innovation Centre at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which combines conservation, digital learning, and eco-tourism. According to Wode Maya, initiatives of this nature help protect Sierra Leone’s biodiversity while creating opportunities for youth engagement, research, and international partnerships.
“Minister Tunis is showing Africa that tourism is not just about beaches and hotels; it’s about innovation, culture, and sustainability,” Wode Maya said.
He also highlighted areas he believes are contributing to the growth of the sector, including the expansion of eco-tourism through projects like Tacugama’s Innovation Centre, the promotion of cultural heritage sites and festivals, and efforts to improve tourism infrastructure and international visibility through strategic partnerships.
Wode Maya further encouraged Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora and Africans around the world to invest in their countries, describing tourism as an avenue for job creation, cultural preservation, and sustainable development.
“Africa will only rise when Africans themselves believe in it. Sierra Leoneans abroad must see tourism as a gateway to rebuild and rebrand their nation,” he said.
