Abacba street market is one of the popular markets in Freetown which host many shops and petty traders.
Most of the things sold by these petty traders are from Guinea.

In the early hours of Friday 12th August 2022, tables belonging to traders of the market were all destroyed by unknown persons.

With regards the destruction some citizens have accused the Freetown City Council.

To debunks the acquisition statement by some citizens, the Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyer has said the Freetown City Council have no hand in what happened at the market.

“Learnt via photos on social media that market stalls at #Abacha Street Market were destroyed overnight. Have also seen posts that #FCC is responsible. Would like to inform the general public that FCC is not responsible & did not participate this night operation during curfew”, she said.
