Every day brings the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) closer to its momentous National Delegates’ Conference (NDC) to elect new national executive officers.

Highlight of this much awaited end of the year calendar activity would be the battle for the party’s National Chairman position that pits the incumbent Dr. Prince Harding aka Bullet against four challengers – Alhaji Momodu Koroma, who only recently announced his candidature, Jimmy Batilo Songa, Alex Bhonapha, and JS Kelfala.

The NDC which has seen several postponements since 2020 when it was supposed to be held was once again shifted last week from the 22nd and 23rd at the Galiness Hotel Conference Center in Bo city to December 29th and 30th at the same venue.

The Exclusive reports that, close to 1,000 delegates elected in the lower-level elections conducted at Zonal, Ward, Constituency, District, Regional and Branches overseas will be tasked with electing the party’s National Chairman and his deputy, Secretary General and his deputy, Public and Organizing Secretaries and their deputies, Treasurer, Chaplain, Imam, among others.

It could be recalled that the party’s Women’s Leader elections first conducted early this month in Kailahun drew a lot of controversy and rancor which saw the party leader calling for its cancellation, and the setting up of an Independent Elections Monitoring and Observation Committee (IEMOC) at a special NEC meeting in Port Loko to conduct all further elections.

Ahead of the elections, IEMOC is mandated to publish the full names of all delegates for the elections, giving opportunity for party members to examine and verify the eligibility of the names.

All concerns about the eligibility of the delegates published shall be forwarded to IEMOC. Those names by now should have been published by IEMOC, as they should have been posted 21 days to the said elections.
