The re-election campaign of President Julius Maada Bio is in full swing, following a generous donation of $40,000 by the Washington DC Metro Chapter of Sierra Leone’s People’s Party (SLPP) at an event held in the United States over the weekend.

Speaking on the donation, Fatmata Wurie, Chairman of the SLPP in the Washington DC Metro Chapter, said the donation was a collective effort by the chapter to ensure the re-election campaign of President Julius Maada Bio is successful.

Desmond Pessima, Regional Chairman, received the donation on behalf of the party and described the funds as “historic,” adding that it echoed the hopes and aspirations of President Julius Maada Bio concerning his re-election campaign come June 24, 2023.

“Washington, your effort will never go unrecognized, or unappreciated or unrecorded as long as I am your chairman for SLPPNA Region. You have loudly answered the call of President Bio and this will go down in history,” he said.

This donation marks the second significant contribution to the campaign of the incumbent president, following the pledge of one million dollars from the Julius Maada Bio Movement (JMB) to support his 2023 election campaign.

Sierra Leone will hold its multi-tier elections on June 24th, 2023, where President Julius Maada Bio is seeking re-election for a second term in office. He faces stiff competition from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer, Samura Kamara.
