Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr has officially declared her intention to rerun as Mayor of the Freetown municipality.

She made this declaration at an event held at the Atuga Mini Stadium in the East End of the country’s capital, Freetown.

Speaking at the occasion, Aki-Sawyere stated some of the developments she brought to the City while serving as Mayor of Freetown. She added that when her party (All People’s Congress “APC” ) comes to power in June 2023 most of her incomplete works will be completed.

She said the Bio-led government brought the PR system in expectation to win the upcoming elections but noted that they will not win it.

She explained the process, noting that, the people will not see pictures of their councilors or MPs rather they will only see the faces of the presidential candidates and the mayoral candidates.

‘’What you need to know is that your councilors who have worked so hard for you and your communities, so that you may give them a second chance with no split vote’’ Aki-Sawyerr said, adding that, the APC is a peaceful and nonviolent party.

‘’I disagree with violence, I disagree with intimidation, I disagree with the uneven distribution of justice, this is a free country and that should be seen practiced at all sectors’’

‘’I am here today to let you all know that, they asked us to vacate office and according to the law, we should have left on April 25th, 2023, but to maintain the peace we left before that date. This has even given us chance to plan and get ourselves well prepared as well as ready for the June 24 elections,’’ she stated

Making her official declaration she said;

‘’Today with joy, happiness, humility, and acknowledgment of all those who supported me in the five years drive and that I have come before you as your daughter and sister as I have thanked and continue to thank the Former President, Earnest Bai Koroma that believed in me in 2018, Minkailu Mansaray, Osman Foday Yansaneh and the current flag bearer, Samura Kamara and under their blessings and you the people, I want to declare my intention to be re-elected as mayor for the Freetown City Council.’’
