Former Minister of Youth Affairs and Ambassador to the Republic of Iran, under the leadership of former President Dr. Ernest Koroma, Hon Alimamy A. Kamara, on Monday 23th August, in an exclusive interview with this medium, disclosed that he will be contesting for the Flagbearer position of the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) Party, if successful in this bid, it will see him lead the party to the 2023 National Elections.

According to The Times SL Newspaper, Hon Alimamy said that the disclosure is to allay the fears of his supporters and the entire membership, that despite the court matter, he will not be stopped from contesting for the position, stating that he is sure of getting justice that will exonerate him at the end. He stressed that he was not in court for misappropriation of funds, but for Asset declaration. He added that he has the energy, experience, pedigree and all what it takes to lead the party and bring back the APC to power come 2023.

Hon Alimamy said he has been in the APC all throughout his childhood, and has served in various capacity, as a youth leader in the APC Youth Wing; being the only sitting Member of Parliament to lead the APC Youth Wing, a position he has held with honour, resulting in the transformation of the structure of the youth wing to a responsible organ within the APC Party, and this has earned him the best national youth leader accolade since the advent of the APC party.

Hon Alimamy Kamara, in 2011, was awarded the prestigious annual award as the Best Parliamentarian of the Year and also the Youngest MP by All Works of Life (AWOL)

He was the President of the All Political Party Youth Associations (APPYA) then and has worked with all political parties in order to address the issue of electoral violence among young people. Hon. Alimamy also helped to rebuild youth confidence within the APC, as that was a big challenge then for former President Koroma.

Ambassador Kamara said the APC is not corrupt, as is being claimed by the current government, and urge all to focus on preventive methods in the fight against corruption.

Kamara graduated from the University of Sierra Leone in 1996 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Economics.

He stated that he has always challenged the New Direction government of President Bio that the APC are not thieves and should not be treated as criminals.

Ambassador Alimamy stated that the country should not always look forward to the West and Colonial master for hand outs to develop the country, but that the leaders should create the enabling environment for ideas of young people to flow. He stated that leaders should be sincere and work in the interest of the nation, as that is the only way the nation will develop. Hon. Kamara said that he is not a typical politician who focuses on deceptive promises, but believes in his achievement in the political landscape. He therefore called on the APC membership to scrutinize their leaders, based on their character, work and vision, as that is what is required to be a good leader.

He furthered that the country should address laziness and indiscipline, which is the cause of Hate, jealousy and envy, which is the main reason for our backwardness as a nation.
