“I Asked Them to Make Me President so That I Can Work For My People” – Hon. Alpha Kanu Gives Reasons For Leaving APC
The newly appointed Resident Minister North-Western Region, Honourable Alpha Kanu has extended his thanks to the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Brigadier (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada for giving him the opportunity to work for his people.

On a video where he was addressing his people in Port Loko in acknowledging his appointment by the President, the former APC presidential aspirant stated that, he has worked in many ministries including Foreign Affairs and others. He said all what he wanted was to work for his people which inspired him to ask his party to make him president. “But the road that I should use to reach there was too far and that made me to come to the other side,” he declared. Hon. Alpha Kanu continued saying that, when Maada Bio was elected as President in 2018, he asked him to join his government. He concluded by assuring his people that he is ready to work for them.
President Bio appointed Alpha Kanu as Resident Minister North-Western with a cabinet rank on 11th January, 2022. The former Honourable served as Minister of Presidential and Public Affairs and also Spokesman for the All People’s Congress political party under the previous government of former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
His appointment as a member of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has been the subject of discussion across Sierra Leone. As a member of the APC, Alpha Kanu served in other various cabinet positions in the Ernest Bai Koroma administration from 2007 to 2018, including as Minister of Mines, Minister of Information and Government spokesman.
