APC Reschedules District Elections After Fatal Accident
The National Secretariat of the All Peoples Congress (APC) has announced that its District Elections will now be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, instead of Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The decision follows consultations between the Party’s National Secretariat and the Independent Elections Management Committee (IEMC) after an incident during the recent elections.
According to the Party, the incident injured members of its election personnel and security personnel deployed to assist with the electoral process. Some of those injured are currently receiving medical treatment, while one security officer lost his life.
Against this backdrop, and to allow outstanding electoral processes to be properly concluded, the National Secretariat and the IEMC agreed to reschedule the District Elections to September 26.
The Party has also called on the Independent Elections Complaints Board (IECB) to make every effort to conclude all outstanding election petitions as quickly as possible.
The APC said this would enable it to resolve the remaining electoral matters and, as far as practicable, ensure that all Districts are able to participate in the elections on the new date.
All aspirants, delegates, Party members, election officials and other stakeholders have been urged to take note of the revised date and act accordingly.
The Party has meanwhile extended its sympathies to the family of the deceased security officer and wished those injured in the incident a full and speedy recovery.
