The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has, at a press conference held yesterday at the party headquarters on Old Railway Line, Brookfields, Freetown, criticised the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) led government’s handling of the latest European Union (EU) Election Follow-Up Mission report, stating that the government is treating serious governance and democratic issues with reckless abandon.

Addressing pressmen, the National Secretary General of APC, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh, among other things, called for the resignation or removal from office of the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), the Chief Justice of the Judiciary of Sierra Leone and the Chief Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission (NEC).

The APC leadership is also calling on Statistics Sierra Leone (STATSL) to put on hold the forthcoming mid-term census stating that STATSL failed to follow the due process of the law, adding that the Census Bill should have been first tabled in Parliament for approval.

The main opposition is also calling on the international community to condemn programmes that go against the laws of the country.

Ambassador Yansaneh furthered that the APC as the main opposition party has lost faith in the leadership of the aforementioned state institutions for obvious reasons.

The Exclusive Newspaper reported that, the APC scribe also applauded the EU for releasing what referred to as a credible report on the current dramatic decline in governance and democracy under the President Bio led government, adding that before the release of the said report, the APC had issued out several correspondence and other documents to local and international partners informing them about the many irregularities, intimidations and violence perpetrated by the Bio led government.

The current government, he furthered, has since the first day of its rule, started murdering the democracy left behind by his predecessor, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, by forcefully imposing the Speaker of Parliament on the people and wrong appointment of certain government officials, the illegal removal of elected Members of Parliament from the APC, the reckless manner in which trigger happy police officers killed many innocent citizens in Tombo, Pademba Road Correctional Services and Makeni and the many political intimidations and illegal arrest of APC members and supporters in the South-Eastern part of the country.

He concluded by drawing the attention of the international community on the latest suspension of the Auditor General of Sierra Leone and Deputy arguing that the President failed to follow the due process of the law.
