Political Analysts are fearing that Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC) Convention might be postponed after flagbearer candidates complained fee stipulated by the Secretary General of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee (ITGC), Abdul Kargbo.

According to the party’s timeline, the Convention was supposed to be held this weekend in stronghold Makeni, north of the country.

Reports stated that some of the flagbearer aspirants complained that the NLe 6,000 asked for is exorbitant and protested against it.

The NLe 6,000 is supposed to be separate from another NLe 30,000 that is itemised as processing fee for flagbearer aspirants of the party.

Analysts were saying that the fees are recognised by both the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) and the party’s new constitution.

Some, however, believe that the postponement is due to forecasting that Dr. Samura Kamara would like be the party’s candidate again in the June 2023 elections.

The National Reformation Movement (NRM) of the party were against Dr. Samura Kamara contesting in the previous election under the party because they believe that he was handpicked by former President Koroma.

Some party supporters still believe that the movement is still against Samura Kamara as the party edge towards conclusion of its inter-party elections.

In another news, the Chairman of the ITGC has written the party’s Elections Committee seeking clarification on petitioned candidates in Kono, Eastern Province. Conteh was seeking to clarify the conduct of the party’s lower-level elections in the eastern district.
