The main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) has ordered rerun elections in several wards across the Western Area Urban district, following a ruling by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) on Monday.
In a public notice issued on 19th May 2026, the APC National Secretariat announced that the reruns would be conducted on Saturday, 23rd May 2026, in accordance with the party’s 2022 constitution and directives from the PPRC.
The decision follows petitions arising from the party’s ward elections originally held on 21st February 2026. The National Secretariat said the reruns also take into account sustained decisions of the Independent Elections Complaints Board (IECB) and cancellations effected by the Independent Elections Management Committee (IEMC).
According to the notice, eight wards in the Western Area Urban district are affected. Three wards — 407, 408, and 409 in Constituency 116 — are listed for rerun by direct order of the PPRC. Two other wards — 414 in Constituency 114 and 427 in Constituency 124 — were cancelled by the IEMC.
Ward 417 in Constituency 119 is listed following an IECB decision, while Ward 430 in Constituency 125 also faces an IEMC cancellation. Ward 435 in Constituency 127 is scheduled for a rerun based on an IECB decision described as “pro position only.”
The party said the National Secretariat is currently determining and confirming designated venues for the scheduled rerun elections in compliance with the PPRC’s directives.
All concerns, inquiries, or complaints arising from the publication are to be directed to the APC National Secretariat for necessary guidance and administrative action, the notice added.
