The Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) has confirmed that Alhaji Musa Tarawally, who is publicly identified as a flagbearer aspirant of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), remains a member of the CDP and has not formally resigned from the party.
The confirmation is contained in a letter dated September 3, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the SLPP. The letter was signed by CDP National Secretary General Ibrahim Sorie Sesay in response to an inquiry concerning Tarawally’s current party membership status.
According to the letter, Tarawally, who served as the CDP’s presidential candidate in the 2018 national elections, has not submitted a resignation from the party. The CDP further stated that he had taken no formal steps to resign or withdraw his membership since joining the party in 2018.
The CDP said the clarification was intended to ensure that the SLPP and the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) have accurate information regarding Tarawally’s membership status and compliance with party regulations.
The development comes as Tarawally has been publicly presenting himself as an SLPP flagbearer aspirant ahead of the party’s expected selection process for the 2028 presidential election. Recent reports have identified him as an SLPP aspirant. ([The Times Sierra Leone][1])
The CDP letter also acknowledged the SLPP’s efforts to seek clarification on the matter and offered to provide further information or documentation if required.
The membership confirmation is significant because the SLPP has subsequently cited the CDP’s position in directing Tarawally to stop using the SLPP logo, presenting himself as an SLPP member or identifying himself as an aspirant for the party’s flagbearership. ([Sierraloaded][2])
As presented in the two party letters, the issue therefore centres on Tarawally’s current membership status and his public association with the SLPP while the CDP maintains that he remains a member of its party.
