The National Commission for Democracy (NCD) has applauded Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC).

The commendation from NCD is a result of the party’s democratic process at their February National Delegates’ Conference held in Makeni.

The Commission said that they witnessed the party’s primaries in Makeni and were satisfied with the open ballot system they used to elect their executive members and their presidential candidate.

They said that the invitation of the media to help broadcast the process was a show that the party was being transparent in the process.

The Commission further pleaded with members of the political sphere to maintain peace as the country ed towards the June 2023 elections.

The APC party conducteitsir NDC in late February in n democratic manner after several years. This new process was done after a directive by High Court judge, Adrian Fisher.

Although members and somsympathizersrs of the party agreed that the process was transparent, the Chairman of the Interim Transition and Governance Committee (ITGC), Alfred Peter Conteh is threatening to take action against the new executive because he believed that the process excluded the ITGC and thus went against what Justice Fisher ordered in his November ruling.
