The leadership of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All People’s Congress (APC) in Constituency 129 has distanced themselves from the decision made by their Parliamentarian, Alfred Ayodele Thompson.

In a letter to the APC National Secretary General, executives of Thompson’s constituency stated that they have decided to cut ties with the APC MP.

On behalf of Constituency 129 and wards 438 and 439 executive, West District, after an hour long engagement, we the executive have unanimously agreed to dissociate ourselves from the actions of Alfred Ayodele Thompson,” the Party’s Western Executive said.

They added that their decision is because Thompson failed to adhere to directive of the APC to boycott government and governance due to “lack of transparency and accountability of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL)”.

They said Thompson acted alone -not in tandem with what the Executive wanted.

The Executive want to make it clear that the decision of the honourable has nothing to do with the Executive and it is personal and never represent the wish of the electorate,” they said.

They added that they will not be part of Thompson’s team in the constituency and plan to boycott him.

The Executives and grassroots of the constituency will not attend any of his meetings and any other activities that have to do with him,” they said.

Thompson is the latest APC MP to take oath in Parliament joining Mohamed Bangura, the party’s minority leader in the House.
