The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone has on an interview with TV-News24 assured Sierra Leoneans that they will within their powers ensure that the national elections to be held in June 2023 be credible.

Director of Media and Communications for the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone, Philip Kargbo Esq told TV-News24 this: “We want to assure the general public that as far as the commission is concerned, we’ll be transparent.  We’ll ensure that we do things within the ambit of the law, and nobody will act – within the commission – outside the laws of this country,”

He further stated that the Head of the Election Body has taken steps to ensure smoothness and credibility throughout the electioneering process.

Philip Kargbo  explained that the first step taken by the new leadership was to separate the electoral education department from the training department in order to ensure efficiency in the discharge of their functions.

He added that the commission aims to educate the public on the entire electoral process which is why a roadmap has already been designed to carry out all electoral education activities to allay fears of citizens who are skeptical about casting their votes in 2023.

The Director emphasized that even though the commission is statutorily mandated to conduct elections in Sierra Leone, there are other institutions within the country that also plays critical roles in election processes.

He said the Civil society Organizations, politicians, the security sector and the government have a great role to play in the election which will determine the outcome of it.

He therefore advised that all parties play their roles within the ambit of the law so that the outcome of the election will be good.
