The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) has issued a Preliminary Statement on the conduct of Paramount Chief Member of Parliament Elections in Falaba, Bombali, Kambia, Pujehun and Bonthe Districts.

According to ECSL, the conduction of the election is in exercise of the powers vested in it by section 33 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Act No 6 of 1991) and pursuant to the provisions of Section 98 of the Public Elections Act 2022 (Act No 4 of 2022) on 20 May 2023 conducting Paramount Chief Member of Parlament elections in the following districts:

1. Falaba
2. Bombali
3. Kambia
4. Pujehun
5. Bonthe

ECSL further revealed that Polling in 126 of the 128 polling stations in the above-mentioned districts opened on time at 7: am.

Voting is going on peacefully in all of these polling stations. Voters in two polling stations, one in Kamadugu Yiraia Chiefdom in Falaba district and another in Bombali Sebora in Bomball district could not vote because of issues with the gazette list of Chiefdom Councilors used for the elections.

The presence of the Sierra Leone Police is visible in all polling centres in the various districts. National Election Watch (NEW) and other media organisations are observing the elections, ” ECSL states

Meanwhile, ECSL further revealed that Voting was scheduled to end at 5:00 p.m. on 20 May 2023, and Counting will take place immediately after polling in the respective polling stations and the polling station results will be tallied at the National Data Centre in Freetown.

The final certified results will be announced by the Chief Electoral Commissioner at a date to be communicated by ECSL
