Honorable Ibrahim Ben Kargbo has urged Dr. Samura Kamara to engage with the All People’s Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the upcoming 2028 elections. Speaking on AYV TV, Hon Kargbo emphasized the necessity of collaboration, stating, “Dr. Samura Kamara must see reason; we must work towards winning the coming elections.”
He discussed the importance of interpreting the party constitution to determine Dr. Kamara’s eligibility to contest, noting, “The two teams worked under the old constitution; the new constitution is unknown.” He expressed concern about the number of candidates, highlighting that Dr. Kamara has already contested twice.
“The bottom line is we, the leaders, want a discussion with Dr. Samura Kamara. We need to know the way forward and how we can resolve these issues as a party,” Hon Kargbo said.
Dr. Kamara is currently advocating for electoral justice, with many supporters believing he could succeed President Julius Maada Bio. Hon Kargbo stressed the importance of Dr. Kamara’s participation, insisting that “a future without Samura Kamara will not look good for the APC.”
Having known Dr. Kamara personally, he stated, “I want to see him as president of Sierra Leone.” However, he acknowledged the challenges ahead, saying, “President Bio is a recognized man globally in the international community.”
Hon Kargbo cautioned against setting deadlines on Dr. Kamara’s potential presidency, arguing that it undermines credibility. “I believe Dr. Samura Kamara is being used by people. He is honest but must consider his position carefully,” he added.
He also noted that unresolved issues from the tripartite committee process have not been addressed in previous meetings. “The question should have been who won the election, but that was not asked by the mediator. President Bio will continue to lead.”
In conclusion, Hon Kargbo urged party members to focus on unity and preparation for the elections ahead, instead of wasting their time, “let’s put our house in order for the election.”
