The much anticipated General Elections 2023 are just eight days away. The elections scheduled to be held on 24th June and the results for the same will be declared afterwards.
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has posted a full list of candidates vying for the different positions in the upcoming multi-tier elections.
Let’s take a look at the candidates in the Mayor, Parliamentary and Local Council elections in Kailahun and Port Loko Districts:
In the Port Loko District, according to ECSL’s List, a total of four political parties including the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party, APC, ADP and NDA, with an independent candidate are contesting in the Port Loko Mayor elections. Out of five candidates, 3 are females and the two are males.
Five parties including: PLP NDA, APC, SLPP and PDP fielded their candidates for the Chairperson Position. Whilst three political parties are contesting in the local council elections, independent candidates with the same three Parties are contesting in the Parliamentary elections.
A total of Seven Political parties and four independent candidates are in the Mayor, Parliamentary and Local Council poll fray in Port Loko District. Port Loko District is considered as the All People’s Congress Stronghold, the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party and the rest are going to face stiff competition with the APC to win a position in that part of the country.
In the Kailahun District, only three political parties; APC, SLPP and RUFP represented by Ngobeh Jusu Jaka, Lamie Sahr Ahmed and Lengor Morie Sam respectively, are running for the Kailahun District Chairperson Position. And for the Mps and Councillors only the opposition APC and the ruling SLPP are contesting.
The Kailahun District has a total candidates of 3 men and three political parties contesting in the Parliamentary and Local Council elections.
