The Liberation People’s Party (LPP) has formally accepted the proposed appointment of Mrs Madiana Nyanda Boakae-Samba as Electoral Commissioner for Sierra Leone’s Southern Province.
The party communicated its position in a letter dated September 15, 2026, addressed to the Secretary to the President in response to State House’s request for the views of registered political parties on the proposed appointment.
The consultation is being conducted pursuant to Section 32(3) of the 1991 Constitution, which provides for the appointment of Electoral Commission members by the President after consultation with registered political parties and subject to parliamentary approval.
According to the LPP letter, the party’s leadership and National Secretariat conducted consultations before unanimously agreeing to accept Boakae-Samba’s proposed appointment, subject to the required parliamentary approval.
The party said it was confident that Boakae-Samba would bring integrity, professionalism and a strong commitment to the independence and effectiveness of the Electoral Commission in the interest of Sierra Leone’s democracy and citizens.
The LPP also thanked President Julius Maada Bio for consulting the party and said it remained available for further engagement on the appointment or related electoral matters.
The response follows a September 8 letter from the Office of the President notifying registered political parties of the proposed appointment and requesting their views within three working days.
The proposed appointment is part of the constitutional process for filling an Electoral Commissioner position, with parliamentary approval required before the appointment can be concluded.
