Comrade of the All People’s Congress Party, Dr. Yahya Kaloko, has cautioned Lawyer Tarawali and other members of the party on the Le50 Million application fee for the flagbearear position, saying their main focus of the amount is disingenuous.

“Comrade Lawyer Tarawali, I think your main focus, including others, on the LE 500M is disingenuous.  The problem some of us have is not centered on the amounts stipulated, but more importantly the blatant disregard of more important issues in the rules presented, having to do with the party’s posterity.

Personally, I observed these rules were long crafted to serve the interest of a certain candidate way before Adrian Fischer’s ruling.  As a lawyer I believe you are aware for example, the universal or cardinal constitutional requirements candidates have to fulfill in pursuance of important political offices, one of which is a POLITICAL CLEARANCE.  Have you asked yourself why this particular rule or requirement was deliberately and blatantly left out?   For me this one bears more weight than the so called LE500M some of us are drumming as necessary because of APC empty coffers.  The amount is a moment in time issue, compared to other ones that must serve as the guiding principles in the party’s and country’s posterity.

I am strongly with those who refrain from blaming Alfred for allowing these rules to be presented.  I strongly believe this is not the document he would have allowed to be presented to the PPRC. But the composition of the 21-man committee does not favor him, and he does not have the power to dictate, based on Fisher’s ruling.  But as strategic as he has always been in this fight, sometimes you should allow your opponent to be self-destruct and hammer him/her in the final stages.  In his strategic approach, he allowed the majority to have their way, but keeps his moments of celebration in the PPRC where the document will be gutted down because of strong opposition.

To those who joyously supported this document as the framework for our party’s election undertaking, your celebration is short lived. Just wait and see.

But a more important issue to point out here is that the same tactics the previous administration applied that got us to this 11th hour are still at work.  Except if the group that supports the status quo is politically dumb, they should have learned such political maneuvering will only waste time, as this YASSANEH DRAFT will not become the final document.

WE MUST ALL FIGHT FOR OPEN PRIMARIES AS THE CURRENT SITUATION DEMANDS.  WE MUST FIGHT TO ENSURE EACH ASPIRING CANDIDATE GOES THROUGH A RIGOROUS VETTING PROCESS, BEFORE EVEN CONSIDERING THE APPLICATION FEES.”
