The APC, NGC and C4C has declared that they do not accept the decision of Parliament to approve Madam Zainab Umu Moseray as the Western Regional Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission.

According to them, they were informed but not consulted in the decision to approve Madam Moseray as the Western Regional Commissioner of the National Electoral Commission.

The opposition leaders said it is an undemocratic manner the Speaker of Parliament imposed on them and that it seems to be a game plan by the Government as they physically removed Elected Opposition Members of Parliament and replaced them with SLPP Members not by Elections but by Court decision, to gain more vote in Parliament for the approval of Madam Moseray.

According to Sections 32 Sub-Section 3 of the Sierra Leone 1991 Constitution , Members of the Electoral Commission shall be appointed after consultations with the Leaders of all Registered Political Parties and Subject to approval of Parliament. In lieu of this, the Opposition Leaders have the right to resist any Violations of this law.

“Had the political parties being consulted, the president would have had the opportunity to know the reasons why over 50% of Registered Political Parties in Sierra Leone consider Madam Moseray to be most unsuitable for a Position at the Electoral Commission.  Political Parties are in a better position to assess Madam Moseray’s suitability, having interacted with her for nearly a decade at the Political parties Registration commission. The roots of most of the divisions and conflicts among some political parties today, has been traced from her manipulation in the service of the ruling party” the opposition leaders said.

As Leaders and Members of Parliament, they are independently convinced that what the Government did was wrong and that is why they are on the same journey to refuse anything that stands against Democracy.

“People should know that bad practices are not good for Democracy. This is beginning to reinforce a culture and attitude of imposition. We stand on morality; we will be together and we will fight for Democracy. We are united in this, its not about Party or Self-interest, it is the fact that yes, we are beginning to corrupt the system, so we must put a stop to that”
