26 March, 2022, has been declared as the date for the conduct of the Parliamentary by-elections in Constituencies 005 and 073 Kailahun and Port Loko respectively.

The two by-elections will decide between the two main political parties (SLPP & APC) as to who will have majority seats in the 5th Parliament of the 2nd Republic of Sierra Leone.

Nominations according to the National Electoral Commission (NEC), would be open on the 16 and 17 February, 2022 at the Commission’s District offices in Kailahun and Port Loko.

Meanwhile, political analysts have predicted a tough race for the seat in Constituency 073 following the recent appointment of Hon Alpha Khan as Resident Minister for North West.

The analysts argue that Constituency 073 by-election is a test case to prove Alpha Khan worthiness in the ruling SLPP fold and an assurance for more votes to sail HE Bio to second term in the 2023/24 Presidential Election.

A win for the SLPP will also put to shame, the main opposition APC who criticized the appointment of Hon Alpha Khan and opined that such decision will never affect the party popularity and votes in Port Loko.

The security sector, especially the SLP are expected to step up their game in Port Loko during the period for the  Parliamentary by-election in Constituency 073.
