Alimamy Petito Koroma, an aspirant for the chairmanship of the All People’s Congress (APC), has stated that President Julius Maada Bio is not his friend.

Speaking during a recent media engagement with ECKO Media, Koroma said he is often asked about his relationship with the President, but clarified that they are not friends.

He explained that his interactions with President Bio have been limited, noting that they only met recently when he contested for the APC flagbearer position, an effort in which he was unsuccessful.

Koroma further disclosed that the first time he ever spoke with President Bio was in 2017, when the President called him on the phone to encourage him following an election loss. According to Koroma, the call was meant to boost his morale and urge him not to lose courage.

Despite stating that they are not friends, Koroma remarked that he would welcome such a relationship, adding that many people would appreciate having a sitting President as a friend. He also noted that President Bio has shown him considerable respect, which he said he appreciates.

Koroma concluded by saying that the only way he can offer advice to the President is through the media, including radio discussions.

He added that while he speaks publicly, others often relay his comments to the President, sometimes referring to him as a “friend” who is also offering criticism.
