Many prominent indigenes of the Northwest Region are reported to have indicated their desire to vie under the party symbol of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the 2023 local council and parliamentary elections.

According to reports, the prominent indigenes are clamouring to run under the SLPP ticket after they have been influenced by the impressive infrastructure and human capital development projects that the governing SOPP is implementing in the Northwest Region since acceding to power in April 2018.

In Port Loko, Kambia and Karene districts, reports state that many prominent indigenes have expressed their desire to vie under the SLPP symbol in next year’s local council elections for mayoral and chairmanship positions, as well as the parliamentary representation.

While leadership struggle has reportedly engulfed the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party in its Northwest strongholds, reports maintain that support for the SLPP in those regions has gathered momentum and that APC operatives who were very active campaigners have disowned the party to switch allegiance to the ruling SLPP.

According to The Satellite Newspaper, majority of people in the Northwest Region have reportedly reacted positively to the rapid, positive transformation in the region, such as electricity, water, supply, road infrastructure and agriculture, and are very determined to vote massively for the SLPP in the 2023 national elections as a reward for the latter’s development strides.

Erstwhile APC lobbyist, according to reports, have pledged to go on the political frontline to wage a massive campaign for SLPP’s landslide victories in the 2023 local council, parliamentary and presidential elections in the Northwest Region.
