The National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Umaru Napoleon Koroma Esq., has officially declined calls from party supporters urging him to contest for the position of National Chairman.
In a statement released on social media, Koroma expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence reposed in him by members of the SLPP. He acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding his potential candidacy, attributing it to his eight years of dedication and service as National Secretary.
“I appreciate the enthusiasm, the love, and trust my grand old party SLPP has in me by calling on me to run for the office of National Chairman. It is a testament to my eight years of commitment and performance as the National Secretary,” he stated.
However, Koroma made it clear that he will not be vying for the party’s top leadership position.
“But I will state again, as I said before, I am not running for the position of National Chairman of our Party,” he affirmed.
His announcement comes amid growing internal division within the SLPP regarding the party’s leadership ahead of the 2028 general Elections. While some party members had viewed him as a strong contender, his decision not to run will likely shift attention to other potential candidates for the position.
