The Northern Region Athletics Association headed by its president Moses Robinson Koroma in preparation for this year’s Boxing Day Sport organised a day trial for all the athletes at the different camps in the region earlier this month at the Ernest Bai Koroma University field in Makeni.

A total of thirty-eight (38) athletes ranging from 100m, 200m, 400m, 1,400, 5000m, 1,500m, short-put, and Javelin throw to Long Jump comprising both the men and women’s categories have been put together to represent the region.

However, “Papaya’s Athletic Camp” in Makeni owned by the region’s Head Coach Alpha Kamara top the chart with twenty-six athletes including all five qualifiers for the 100m men with Ibrahim D. Kamara topping that category who ran within 10.40sec. Jane S. Kargbo the winner of the 2022 Street Child Sierra Leone half marathon category led the 400m for women as she ran 56.88sec.

The Sport Meet is three days event, starting on the 23rd, and 24th and the final on the 26th of December, and the North still has more than twenty of the thirty-eight athletes to hit the track and field on the final day tomorrow (boxing day).
