Augustus Kargbo Features as Blackburn Rovers Stun West Ham
Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo featured as a substitute as Blackburn Rovers secured a historic victory over West Ham United in the EFL Championship on Saturday night.
All three goals came in the second half, with Gudjohnsen and Afolayan finding the net for Rovers, while Piroe scored for West Ham.
Kargbo, who came on as a substitute, nearly won a penalty for Blackburn after going down inside the 18-yard box following a challenge from West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
However, the referee judged the incident to be simulation and cautioned the Leone Stars winger instead of awarding a spot-kick.
The appearance comes at an important time for the 26-year-old, who has earned a call-up to Sierra Leone’s national team for their upcoming two-legged tie against DR Congo later this month.
Kargbo will now be hoping to carry his club form into international duty as the Leone Stars prepare for the crucial fixtures against the Congolese side.
Blackburn’s victory over West Ham will also provide a major confidence boost as they continue their Championship campaign.
The victory moves Blackburn Rovers to 13th place in the Championship standings, with 21 points from 15 matches. Tony Mowbray’s side are now three points behind the play-off places as they look to build momentum following the important win ahead of the international break.
