Bai Bureh Warriors’ Shot-Stopper Earns Leone Stars Look After Record Campaign
Goalkeeper Amara Kamara has been rewarded with a national team call-up after a dominant domestic season exposed a glaring disconnect between individual statistics and league awards recognition.
Kamara, 26, was named in a 27-man home-based squad by Leone Stars head coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa for AFCON 2027 preparations, and also earned a spot in the U-20 AFCON WAFU Zone A qualifiers provisional squad. The invitations cap a season in which Kamara featured in all 34 Premier League matches, conceding just 20 goals while recording a league-leading 19 clean sheets.
His club, Bai Bureh Warriors, finished the campaign with the Premier League’s best defensive record. Despite those numbers, Kamara was not named Goalkeeper of the Season nor included in the league’s Team of the Season, according to club officials. “The numbers speak for themselves,” a club spokesperson said. “To lead the league in clean sheets and still be overlooked for every individual award is difficult to explain.”
The goalkeeper previously played on loan from Young Boys in Lungi before securing a permanent spot with Bai Bureh Warriors. He has also been named Man of the Match on multiple occasions for clean-sheet performances, including a crucial away victory against SLIFA FC.
Gomes Da Rosa, who took charge of Leone Stars earlier this year, has prioritised defensive solidity as he builds toward the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. For Kamara, the call-up provides an opportunity to turn a season of overlooked individual recognition into international validation.
