The Sierra Leone Basketball Federation (SLBF) has issued an open call to under-18 Sierra Leonean basketball players living abroad to apply for selection into the national team ahead of the upcoming U-18 AfroBasket competition.

According to the Federation, the opportunity is open to both male and female players, as part of efforts to assemble a competitive and inclusive squad to represent the country at the continental tournament. While an exact start date has not yet been confirmed, the competition is expected to take place between late May and mid-July.

The SLBF emphasized that the initiative is aimed at ensuring equal opportunity for all eligible players, regardless of their location. This latest call specifically targets foreign-based athletes, complementing the ongoing selection process for home-based players currently taking place within Sierra Leone.

By extending the selection pool to include diaspora talent, the Federation hopes to strengthen the national team with a blend of local and international experience. Officials believe this approach will enhance team performance and provide a broader platform for young Sierra Leonean players to showcase their abilities on the African stage.

Interested players are expected to follow the application guidelines provided by the Federation as preparations continue for the tournament.
