The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Paynesville-Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia as the designated host venue for Sierra Leone’s upcoming TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 Qualifying match against Nigeria.

This highly anticipated match, which marks the fifth fixture for both nations, is of utmost significance in determining their fate in the tournament. The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 18th of this year.

In the previous encounter held in Abuja, Sierra Leone suffered a narrow defeat, with Nigeria securing a 2-1 victory. With four matches played thus far, Sierra Leone currently occupies the third position in Group A, accumulating five (5) points from two draws and a win.

The Confederation of African Football has on 4th May 2023 rejected the Sierra Leone Football Association’s proposal to host Matchday 5 of the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers match between Sierra Leone vs Nigeria at the newly constructed Southern Arena in Bo City, given that as a result of the lack of standard hotels in the country’s second capital, Bo District Southern Sierra Leone.
