Team Sierra Leone has been reminded that representing the nation goes beyond winning medals, as officials urged athletes to demonstrate discipline, commitment, and national pride during the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The message was delivered on Saturday, 25 July 2026, when government officials and sports leaders met with Team Sierra Leone at the Novotel Hotel in Glasgow to encourage athletes and assess the team’s progress.
Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima praised the athletes for their conduct so far, describing them as ambassadors of Sierra Leone. She encouraged them to compete with determination while maintaining the positive image of the country throughout the Games.
“As a Minister of Government, I feel excited to speak to the entire delegation, especially the athletes, our ambassadors,” she said, adding that the government is using sports as a platform to create opportunities for young people.
She urged the athletes to continue giving their best performances and to represent Sierra Leone with pride and responsibility.
National Sports Authority Executive Director, Mohamed Alphaka Conteh commended the partnership between the government and the National Olympic Committee for organising the delegation. He assured athletes of continued support as they compete on the international stage.
President of the National Olympic Committee/Commonwealth Games Association-Sierra Leone, Prince Vandi Sualley, also encouraged the team to maintain the highest standards of discipline before, during, and after the Games.
He described the delegation’s presence in Glasgow as a proud representation of Sierra Leone and paid special tribute to foreign-based athletes for their commitment to wearing the national colours.
Team Sierra Leone’s Chef de Mission, Yayah Koroma, welcomed the delegation and praised the athletes for their appearance and conduct during the Games Opening Ceremony, describing it as a reflection of unity and national pride.
Meanwhile, Team Doctor Dr. Patrick Coker reminded athletes of the importance of clean competition. He urged them to strictly follow anti-doping regulations and report any health concerns immediately to ensure their safety throughout the Games.
The meeting provided motivation for Team Sierra Leone as they continue their campaign in Glasgow, carrying the hopes of a nation while representing Sierra Leone with discipline, honour, and pride.
