Cricket Sierra Leone Defeats Ghana by Six Wickets in Nigeria T20 Series
Sierra Leone’s Senior Men’s Cricket Team, the Men’s Patriots, defeated Ghana by six wickets on Tuesday at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos, ending a five-month wait for victory in the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series.
Sierra Leone restricted Ghana to 85 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs after a disciplined bowling and fielding performance.
The Men’s Patriots then chased down the target in 18.1 overs, finishing on 86 runs for the loss of four wickets to secure a six-wicket victory over their West African rivals.
The win strengthens Sierra Leone’s position in the six-day competition, with several of its players featuring prominently in the tournament’s individual performance statistics.
Pace bowler George Sesay currently leads the Most Valuable Player standings, followed by teammate Alusine Sesay.
George Sesay has also emerged as one of the leading bowlers in the competition. He has taken four wickets in two innings at a bowling economy rate of 4.62 and an average of 9.25, while recording 13 dot balls.
Eric Musa Sesay leads the fielding statistics after making four dismissals in two matches.
Sierra Leone will return to action on Wednesday when the Men’s Patriots face hosts Nigeria in their next match of the tournament.
The victory over Ghana marks an important result for Sierra Leone as the team continues its campaign in the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series.
