Da Rosa Set to Name Leone Stars Squad for Crucial DR Congo Doubleheader
Alex Fefegula Harding Leone Stars coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa will unveil his squad on Thursday as Sierra Leone prepares for two important encounters against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has scheduled a media briefing for 3 p.m. at its conference hall in Kingtom, Freetown, where Da Rosa is expected to announce the players selected for the upcoming fixtures.
According to a public notice issued by the association, the coach will also discuss the team’s technical preparations and respond to questions from journalists ahead of the two matches.
The doubleheader will see Sierra Leone travel to Kinshasa to face DR Congo on Nov. 12 before hosting the same opponents in the return fixture on Nov. 17. However, the second encounter will take place at El Jadida in Morocco rather than on home soil, following arrangements for an alternative venue.
The fixtures form part of Matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign. Both nations are competing in Group E alongside Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea.
DR Congo will enter the November encounters after making a strong start to its qualifying campaign, placing additional importance on Sierra Leone’s preparations for the two meetings, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The November matches provide the Leone Stars with an opportunity to strengthen their position in the group as the race for qualification to the continental tournament continues.
The SLFA has invited members of the media to attend the briefing and announced that the event will also be streamed live on its official Facebook page.
The 2027 AFCON finals, officially branded AFCON PAMOJA 2027, will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
